Artist Spotlight for Kozo: by Dan’s Papers

Featured on the cover of this Dan’s Papers issue, is Kozo’s ‘Wonder Woman x Venus’ painting, proudly represented by DTR Modern Galleries and on view at our New York, Boston and DC gallery locations. Kozo was first discovered at Bang Bang Tattoos, one of the most famous and sought after tattoo shops in New York City. He soon began indulging in his passion and talent for painting, and has created various works on canvas and paper that incorporate both oil paint and tattoo ink.

Kozo’s work encompasses both surrealist and post-impressionist themes, as well as classical and modern artistic styles. His cover art, “Wonder Woman” is an ode to Roy Lichtenstein, and his other works show influences of Van Gogh and other famous painters. Kozo’s work is “universally transcendent, immediately captivating and meditative. The world yearned for an innovative young artist to elevate the ancient art of tattooing to new heights” (A. Bellos).
