Banksy ‘From the Streets to Spotlight’

As seen in Manhattan Express on June 2nd, 2023. Article by Avalon Ashley Bellos.

Featured in this week’s edition of the Manhattan Express, we celebrate the iconic street artist Banksy. Street art, once a symbol of urban decay, has become a powerhouse in both the primary and secondary markets. Graffiti and street art were once thought of as blemishes to the city, and now represent a movement of creation, of social rebellion, of power. Icons like Keith Haring and Basquiat paved this path, using the city as a canvas, leaving a remarkable impact on society and art. In today’s art scene, street art is a “must have” in many prestigous collections and museums, with almost all modern fine art institutions displaying Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, and now Banksy.

Banksy, an elusive and mysterious artist is one to keep your eye on. With stencil and spray paint, he gave rats a humorous edge, flowers a weapon, and old iconography a new twist. Secretly organizing solo shows all around the world, he threatened the traditional standards of art and has now elevated them.

Banksy is considered still a relatively new name in the secondary market, reaching high prices in the world of collectors. During the pandemic years, he underwent a significant increase in value ($38,809,475 overall) with works such as the ‘Balloon Girl’ and ‘Love is in the Air.’ With future growth still on his horizon, we are lucky to have our own collection of his works on display in our gallery locations.
